NBA Finals, NCAA Baseball Score For TV Watch-Time

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for June 3-9, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Last week was a big one for sports, which commanded the five top ranking positions. The first two games of the NBA Finals, which have the Boston Celtics leading 2-0 against the Dallas Mavericks, accounted for 1.97% of all minutes watched. The NCAA baseball tournament slid into second place slightly ahead of MLB games, with viewership shares of 1.39% and 1.35%, respectively.

Some additional highlights from the week’s top programming:

  • The French Open and PGA Tour golf both rise up the ranking week-over-week, securing the fourth and fifth places, while the women’s college world series remains at No. 11.

  • Chicago franchise shows make inroads, with Chicago Fire moving up five spots week-over-week to No. 19, while Chicago P.D. takes No. 24 after not being in the top 50 programs previously. Watch-time for both was mostly fueled by rerun marathons on ION.

  • Deadliest Catch caught a wave, moving to No. 22 from No. 27 previously, driven by a new episode plus reruns on Discovery and Animal Planet.

  • Two news programs are week-over-week ranking newcomers: NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt (No. 23) and Morning Joe (No. 25).
