Kentucky Derby Races to Third Place on TV Program Ranking

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for April 29 through May 5, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Unsurprisingly, the NBA playoffs continue to hold court at the top of the ranking, stealing a 4.02% viewership share — although that’s a decrease from the previous week’s 4.99%. The Stanley Cup playoffs slide up one spot to take second place with 1.61% of minutes watched, a tiny week-over-week uptick from 1.60% previously. Meanwhile, the 2024 Kentucky Derby takes third place with a 1.04% share, a notable increase from the 2023 Derby’s 0.81%

A few more highlights around the most-watched TV programming:

  • SportsCenter and Major League Baseball round out the top five, with respective shares of 0.93% and 0.91% — both week-over-week increases.

  • Although America's Newsroom with Bill Hemmer & Dana Perino, Family Feud and The Five retain ranking positions week-over-week, each saw a slight increase in viewership share.

  • The Real Housewives of New Jersey jumps into the ranking at No. 25, with reruns plus the season 14 premiere combining for a total share of 0.43%.

  • Jesse Watters Primetime was another week-over-week ranking newcoming, landing at No. 24 with 0.44% of watch-time.
