TV Program Rankings: ‘Yellowstone’ Beats Everything But Football

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for December 9-15, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Unsurprisingly, football continues to lead for TV watch-time, with NFL games scoring a 7.58% viewership share, while college football had a 1.28% share. Meanwhile, Yellowstone rockets to third place thanks to multiple days of rerun marathons, plus the season five — and series — finale episode on Dec. 15. The show has been a cornerstone of Paramount Network for years, sparking multiple spinoffs, prequels and sequels, although so far none have captured the culture zeitgeist as much as the OG series.

A few more insights around the week’s top TV programming:

  • Men’s college basketball takes fourth place with a 0.92% viewership share, while the in-season NBA Cup Tournament lands at No. 11 (0.74%).

  • The live two-night season finale of The Voice scored enough watch-time to take No. 14 (0.59%), up from No. 35 previously.

  • Wheel of Fortune was another week-over-week ranking newcomer, moving up one position to No. 25.
